Mark Flo: About Mark

Mark Flo

Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to Mark Flo, a young entrepreneur that has established a successful Mobile DJ Business, a Music Production Studio and now a record label. Mark started all these ventures with monies earned from part-time and full-time jobs. Flo has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the Advertising world as an innovative Finance Manager working with Lowe Advertising , The Arnell Group and Mediaedge: cia. In addition every dollar made from DJ gigs and production work was invested back in the family business. Flo has interned at Mother West Studios in New York where he learned the in and outs of the music production world. Flo has had the priveledge of working with many talented artists, most notably Craig Mack of Bad Boy Entertainment.

The impending release of the The Mark Flo Memoirs, the first release off of the Latino Life Entertainment Label, already has the local hip-hop scene eager in anticipation. Audiences will step into the mind of an emcee guided by a strong Catholic faith and blessed with the gift of poetical genius. A Latino eager to cause real change in the world, the album will feature 14 songs, some of the most edgy and creative cuts ever produced.

For Mark Flo, his songs will inspire the everyday working man and woman; some of the tracks may seem controversial, as Flo pulls no punches in getting his point across. Flo will seem like a bright voice coming out of the darkness, the voice for those that do not have a voice. Flo lives his lyrics, he is a CCD teacher at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spring Valley. Flo prepares the childeren for the Holy Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion.

I am not the only one thirsting for positive hip-hop that can creatively contend with the hottest hip-hop has to offer, Flo insists. I will receive support from all people who feel the need to impact real change for the benefit of future generations. We all have pain, but we have to release that pain creatively and turn it into a force for the positive.

These words are much more than mere verbiage for this Bronx Native. Mad Money is the first cut off of the The Mark Flo Memoirs LP. The song features his son Marquis screaming I got the Mad Money in a cute and colorful manner that works over a percolating track. This track shows that even though Flo is making positive music, it is from a practical viewpoint. Flo talks about the need to obtain financial success and the ambition to experience the good things in life. However, it is always the priority to respect the art form while working to achieve that success.

Many fans have been so impressed with Mark's desire and talent: they have purchased his songs and attended his parties in droves. In addition, many will rush out and purchase the new album as soon as it drops. This is truly the story of a local making a worldwide bang.

Whenever someone tells me they feel what I am doing, it moves me to no end. Flo started his own label Latino Life Entertainment to release this project and future projects of talents he believes will make a strong impact on the hip-hop scene. The unfortunate thing about the music industry, is that it is all about who you know. Record labels will not even listen to an aspiring talent unless a lawyer represents them. Underground Artists cannot afford the expense of a lawyer. Upcoming emcees are shut out unless they have a famous relative or friend. Latino Life Entertainment will be a non-political label, which will break new talent that has been ignored by the major labels.

But like many other emcees, Flo has struggled tremendously; Flo was born in Manhattan and as soon as he left the hospital he was driven home to his residence on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx. During his senior year in High School, Flo's single mother whom he treasures moved Flo and his older brother Geo to an apartment in the big city. Flo wanted to finish his last year of High School in the Bronx at Monsignor Scanlon.
It wasn't because I loved the school, I actually stayed there just to finish what I started. I had many friends who were great and we would write rhymes together. I also had many enemies that chose to dislike me for their own insecure reasons. Hip-hop was Flo's outlet, he wrote down all of his thoughts from painful memories to happy ones.

Flo worked various part-time jobs from selling shoes to stocking toys and through all this he kept his mind on the big picture, his dream of making music professionally.
Flo built a strong underground following and released Mad Money in 2003. Audiences were surprised by how Flo was able to combine Old School Flavor with New School practicality. In the past Flo was accused of sounding too Old School. I am not a follower, I am from the Old School, but I am also inspired by and a part of the New School, I am a hybrid of the two, I'm the next level.

Flo was bothered by the fact his production was not professionally handled on G4 Computers utilizing software such as Pro-Tools. So through the Grace of GOD, he purchased his dream computer and the software Pro-Tools which is the industry standard. Flo immediately started production on the The Mark Flo Memoirs. This album is going to be my life in a nutshell, my experiences, genuine music.

Flo got a taste of the New York club scene, thanks to promoters David Guadalupe and Joe Santos who both provided him opportunity to mix at Club Demmarara at 215 West 28th in New York City as a part of their promotions.

In addition, Flo has worked with Graphic Artists like July Lopez and Paul Villacis on creating intro tracks for MTV shows Pick N Roll and Snowlodge, providing him with a taste of the production scene.

I have mixed at countless celebrations from weddings to sweet sixteens to straight parties, and it has been my honor to be a part of so many lives and utilize my talents to make their day special.
